The problem with plain splitting

A classic image splitter divides a 3240×1080 panorama into three 1080×1080 squares. Mathematically that is correct. On the profile it is off: the app puts gaps between posts and shows each one as a taller 3:4 thumbnail, cutting the sides.
That is why a panorama that looked seamless on your computer suddenly jumps at every seam. The bigger the element crossing the seam, the more obvious the break.

Use the 3x3 layout. The image is divided into nine 1080×1080 tiles; publish them from 9 to 1 so the top-left tile ends up first on the profile.
What image size do I need?
For a 3x3 grid the canvas is 3240×3240 px, for a 1x3 panorama 3240×1080 px. Smaller images work too, but the tiles will be upscaled.
Why does my split panorama look misaligned on the profile?
